An interseting quote by Marc Prensky... "Our students have changed radically. Today’s students are no longer the people our educational system was designed to teach" (Prensky 2001 p, 1).
My name is Matt Freeman; I am a final year Middle and Secondary School education student studying Physical Education and Information Technology. My interests are in the areas of using technology to enhance learning in meaningful ways and developing students interests in being mentally and physically active for life long learning.
This resource has been created to provide an overview of a typical role of a primary school ICT teacher/coordinator. The resource will provide a range of useful tools and information for beginning teachers. Information will be discussed by a practicing ICT teacher, who provides an in depth response to his daily routines within the computer lab.
About the ICT Teacher...
The focus of this resource is to outline the following:
a) What it means to be a quality ICT teacher and how they use high quality pedagogy to deliver their teaching.
b) A guide for beginning teachers to use as a resource to further their knowledge and understanding of quality ICT teaching.
c) Common challenges and ways to avoid and overcome these challenges associated with ICT teaching.
Aims of resources are to:
1. Discuss the ICT program at the school where I am on practicum by outlining the thoughts and ideas of the ICT teacher through an interview.
2. Provide an outline of what constitutes to a high quality ICT teacher and how effective pedagogy is used to overcome challenges.
3. Present information regarding effective strategies for beginning ICT teachers and how the choice to teach ICT can be rewarding.
4. Apply a personal opinion through experience and observation as to how effective ICT teaching and pedagogy works and looks.
